Back in February, when it was learned that conservative icon and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk would appear on the inaugural episode of Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s podcast, there was a lot of debate and pushback from liberals and conservatives.

Leftists were upset that Newsom was platforming someone who, in their view, was the very definition of an evil conservative. And there was disagreement on the right on Kirk choosing to break bread with Newsom. Some said Kirk shouldn’t give Newsom the time of day because the governor was clearly trying to give off the appearance that he was more of a middle-of-the-road guy ahead of a possible 2028 presidential run.
Nevertheless, the interview happened, Kirk got Newsom to admit to the unfairness of men in women’s sports, and we learned that Gavin Newsom’s 13-year-old son was a big fan of his.
But sadly, Kirk is gone now, the victim of a left-wing assassin’s bullet. And while Newsom had some nice things to say about Kirk after he was killed, he recently told a completely different story on the issue of his son being a fan of Kirk’s, telling CNN Monday in an interview that his son was not a fan of Kirk’s, that he was just “familiar” with who Kirk was.
Below are both of the clips. The first one, obviously, is from Newsom’s and Kirk’s sitdown. Newsom talks about how his son was super excited the night before the interview and how the next morning, he didn’t want to go to school and wanted to stay home to meet Charlie Kirk. Newsom didn’t let him, but he used the story to make a point about how Kirk was “making a d**n dent” with younger Americans:

California Governor Gavin Newsom shared with Charlie Kirk that his son is a huge fan of the conservative commentator.
“Charlie, my son has been eager to meet you,” Newsom revealed with a smile.
Kirk responded with a playful tease, “So, you let him skip school to come meet me?”… pic.twitter.com/HcGu2cYT3B

But on Monday, here’s what Newsom had to say:
⚠️ TONIGHT @GavinNewsom backtracking on what he said to @charliekirk11 on his own podcast that his son is a Charlie Kirk fan to @Elex_Michaelson on @CNN.
“He wasn’t a fan of him as much as he was was familiar with him.”
What?! He literally described his son as a major fan! pic.twitter.com/5n84VHpDVR

So… he went from being so excited about Kirk visiting Newsom to the point he wanted to skip school and hang out to just merely being “familiar” with who he was?
Right.
To be perfectly clear, it does not matter to me who Gavin Newsom’s son likes and doesn’t like. It’s a free country, and he’s allowed to make his own choices on that.
This is about Gavin Newsom using a good and decent guy to try to boost himself to an audience he’d like to appeal to ahead of 2028, and then distancing himself and his family from him now that he’s no longer around, no doubt in order to placate the type of bitterly hateful leftists who have mocked Kirk’s death and who have said he doesn’t deserve to be honored.

It’s craven, slimy politics at its worst. Something we’ve learned to expect from him. Gavin Newsom is, once again, telling us who he really is. And we should believe him.
