Labor unions in Minnesota are trying to organize a general strike for Friday, January 23. I say bring it on. The weather forecast for Friday in Minneapolis calls for a high of -11 degrees F and a low of -18. So probably no picket lines.
From local alternative outlet Bring Me the News,
7 Twin Cities-area grocery stores announce closures for anti-ICE strike.
The seven are all co-operatives, so those impacted were already down with the cause.
The local chapter of the AFL-CIO put out a press release last Friday, shouting,
MINNEAPOLIS LABOR UNION DELEGATION AND LOCAL REGIONAL LABOR BODIES ENDORSE JANUARY 23: DAY OF TRUTH AND FREEDOM NO WORK, SCHOOL, OR SHOPPING
At -11 degrees, I can see this already being a big success. More importantly, the crazies will self-identify by their absence on Friday.
Workers of the world unite! You have nothing to lose but, something, your something. I forget.
The local St. Paul Pioneer Press takes note,
Events quietly canceled around the Twin Cities with some citing protests of ICE presence.
Events are being canceled across the Twin Cities with some organizers citing protests against the presence of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in the area.
Among the events cancelled was a speech by former First Lady Hillary Clinton set for Friday evening at the local NBA arena. Here Clinton can cancel her event, which was almost guaranteed to bomb, and she can demonstrate her solidarity with the oppressed masses.
It’s a twofer.
