Hamas Lies, Israel Dismisses, America Disappointed, No Breakthrough – RedState

This just in: Hamas rarely tells the truth. They lie; they are terrorists, it’s what they do.

So, when a “Palestinian” official, who is very likely either a Hamas mouthpiece or has a gun at his head, claims that Hamas agreed to a United States proposal for a cease-fire, and both the United States and Israel say just the opposite, it’s pretty certain who has more credibility.

Leave it to Reuters, though, to present the “Palestinian” side first.

A Palestinian official said on Monday that Hamas has agreed to a proposal by U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff for a Gaza ceasefire, only for an Israeli official to deny that the proposal was Washington’s and add that no Israeli government could accept it.

Witkoff also rejected the notion that Hamas had accepted his offer for a hostage deal and a ceasefire in Gaza, telling Reuters that what he had seen was “completely unacceptable” and the proposal being discussed was not the same as his.

Why listen to the “Palestinian official” at all? Even Axios, a left-leaning outlet with no love for Israel, is singing a different tune.

White House envoy Steve Witkoff told Axios on Monday he is “disappointed” that Hamas has so far failed to accept his proposal for a new Gaza hostage and ceasefire deal.

Why it matters: Witkoff has been speaking directly with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his top adviser, Ron Dermer, and with Hamas leadership through a backchannel facilitated by Palestinian American businessman Bishara Bahbah.

What they’re saying: “What I have seen from Hamas is disappointing and completely unacceptable,” Witkoff told Axios.

Driving the news: Negotiations have shown little progress. Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces are proceeding with an operation to displace all 2 million Palestinians in Gaza to a “humanitarian zone” and flatten most of the enclave.

Hamas won’t tell the truth. They never tell the truth. They are terrorists. And Hamas could have a cease-fire at once: All they have to do is surrender, turn over all their weapons, and return every single hostage they still hold. They could do that today. That would end this war at a stroke, and Gaza could start rebuilding, in whatever form that rebuilding would take.

There’s no military way Hamas can win this thing. Israel is continuing to un-alive Hamas terrorists with great efficiency, and were the Israel Defense Forces not exercising a historic level of caution to minimize collateral damage, they would have completely overrun Gaza by now. The United States, yes, is trying to help bring a negotiated end to this thing. But any negotiated cease-fire will be used by Hamas and their Iranian patrons as an interval in which to re-arm, recruit, re-train, and plan the next attack.

That will go on forever if it’s allowed to. At some point, Israel is very likely to have decided they’ve had enough, and the IDF will lose any concern about collateral damage and do unto Gaza what the Allies did unto Germany in 1944 and 1945.

Sadly, it’s likely to come to that. But Hamas is predictable; they will not keep any bargain, they will not rest, they will only attack again. It remains as I have been writing and saying all along: There will be no peace in Gaza until Hamas is no longer a factor.
