A spokesperson for the police said: “Shortly before 9:55am today, we received a report from the fire service of a fire at a property on Carr Lane, Hambleton.
“Our officers along with other emergency service colleagues are at the scene and the fire service are working to extinguish the fire.
“A 54-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He has been taken to hospital with minor injuries at this time.
“Thankfully, no one else has been injured.
“A small number of surrounding properties have been evacuated, and Carr Lane remains closed whilst our colleagues carry out work to ensure the safety of the area.
“An investigation is underway, and a man has been arrested. This is being treated as an isolated incident.
“Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting log 0289 of 27th March.”
