A charity shop with more than 200 stores across the UK has announced its closure date after locals noticed a sign on the door. The Salvation Army shop on Edinburgh’s Dalry Road had been forced to shut due to the end of its tenancy agreement.
The Edinburgh store will officially close its doors on October 31, expressing gratitude to all customers for their support over the years, reports Edinburgh Live. The charity shop is one of 200 Salvation Army shops across the UK that raise funds and provide resources for the charitable organisation.
A note posted on the shop’s door states: “This shop is CLOSING. Our last day of trading will be 31st October 2025. Thank you to all out customers and donors for your support.
“We will not be able to accept new donations during this time. Opening hours may vary.
“Your nearest stores are Gorgie Road and Earl Grey Street.”
It comes after Salavation Army was recently forced to close stores in St Neots, Falrkirk and Edinburgh.
In a previous statement, the Salvation Army team said: “Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd (SATCoL) operates around 200 high street charity shops and over 60 donation centres on behalf of its parent charity.
“Our charity stores (and other reuse and recycling schemes we operate such as our clothing donation banks), raise funds and provide resources for The Salvation Army.
“Overall, the number of stores in the UK are growing and shop closures are not common. A shop closure is usually the result of a tenancy agreement coming to an end or review period, as was the case with the Dalry Road shop.
“Where feasible, we will continue with a shop tenancy agreement but where that is not possible we will invest the funds in other services or areas.
“We are extremely grateful for the support from our customers and donors in Dalry Road over the years. Customers and donors can find their nearest Salvation Army store or clothing donation bank on our easy-to-use map finder: Find Us – Salvation Army.”
It comes after a report from the Charity Retail Association (CRA) said some of the nation’s biggest charity shops are set to follow Scope in shutting stores in 2025.
Scope, a disability charity, announced the closure of 77 of its 138 stores across the UK earlier this year due to financial struggles.
