Today the Senate Judiciary Committee released a tranche of documents relating to the FBI’s investigation of the Hillary Clinton bathroom-server scandal. Remember that? This is how the committee’s press release begins:
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) today is bringing to light the Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of Inspector General’s (OIG) findings that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) failed to fully investigate Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server and mishandling of highly classified information during her time as Secretary of State. The newly declassified “Clinton annex” is an appendix to the DOJ OIG’s June 2018 report reviewing the DOJ and FBI’s handling of the Clinton investigation.
So until now, these materials have been classified, apparently to avoid embarrassment to the Democratic Party.
“This document shows an extreme lack of effort and due diligence in the FBI’s investigation of former Secretary Clinton’s email usage and mishandling of highly classified information,” Grassley said.
The truth, as reflected in the now-declassified documents, seems worse than that. I haven’t tried to fully analyze the new documents, but this memo is intensely interesting. It relates to Russian-language documents, apparently originating with Russian intelligence services:
That is already noteworthy. But now, buckle your seat belt for the Russian communications:
The second Russian document:
So, to recap: “So far the FBI does not have any hard evidence against Hillary Clinton because data was removed from the mail servers just in time.” That, ostensibly from then-DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Then: “Obama is not in the mood to mar the very final segment of his presidency, his legacy with a scandal around a leading nominee for the [D]emocratic [P]arty. To deal with this he is using Attorney General Loretta Lynch to mount a pressure on FBI [D]irector James Comey.” And how about this: “The political director of the Hillary Clinton staff, Amanda Renteria [PH], regularly receives information from Loretta Lynch of the Department of Justice, on the plans and intentions of the FBI.”
Remember the famous meeting between Loretta Lynch and Bill Clinton on an airport tarmac?
The word “bombshell” is promiscuously used these days, often regarding developments that are modest at best. But these documents, on their face, deserve that characterization. Russian intelligence, of course, is not the word of God. But this wouldn’t be the first time that we learned about nefarious actions of the Obama administration through intercepted Russian intelligence communications.
This deserves very aggressive follow-up.
