After more than a century in operation, a historic grocery shop is shutting down.
One of America’s most established regional grocery names, Winn-Dixie, is undergoing substantial transformation, including shop closures.
The latest outlet amongst the group to shut its doors is its Garden Park Plaza shop at 8924 N. Military Trail in Palm Beach Gardens.
The closing date is yet to be finalised but it is believed to cease operations around mid-April.

“Transformation sometimes requires difficult decisions, and in certain cases this can mean closing a store when it’s necessary to support the future success of our company,” said Winn-Dixie in a statement reported by The Palm Beach Post.
The firm added that affected staff will have opportunities to apply for positions at neighbouring locations.
However, while the company maintains a robust presence in Florida, running approximately 327 outlets in the region, the Garden Park Plaza shop is the only one in that particular area.
The closest location is out of town and over 10 miles away.
The closure follows Aldi’s acquisition of Southeastern Grocers in 2024, which encompassed 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets branches. Subsequently, the former Southeastern chief executive Anthony Hucker, together with a consortium of investors, bought back 170 Winn-Dixie outlets from Aldi.
The supermarket chain was established in 1925 in Miami and currently operates roughly 360 shops spanning five US states.
The shuttering of the Palm Beach Gardens branch can be viewed as an initial indication of more substantial transformations ahead as the grocery industry encounters challenges, predominantly from non-conventional retailers.
