A man was found dead on a beach along the Essex coastline on Christmas Day. Essex Police confirmed they were alerted on the morning of December 25 after reports that a person had been discovered on Shoebury Common Beach, near Shoeburyness.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers said the death is not considered suspicious and there will be no police investigation.
Responsibility for the case has now been passed to the coroner, who will carry out further inquiries.
In a statement issued on Sunday, December 28, a spokesperson for Essex Police said emergency services were called to Shoebury Common Road following concerns raised earlier that morning.
“Tragically, a man was found deceased at the location. His death is being treated as unexpected and a report will be prepared for the coroner,” the spokesperson said.
Local residents reported seeing a heavy emergency services presence in the area at around 11am, with police vehicles and ambulances attending the beach.
The East of England Ambulance Service confirmed that three ambulances were dispatched after the Coastguard raised the alarm, The Sun reported.
“Despite the efforts of all emergency crews, the person was sadly confirmed deceased at the scene,” an ambulance service spokesperson said.
No further information about the man’s identity or the circumstances surrounding his death has been released. The coroner will now work to establish the cause of death at a later date.
Police have stressed that the incident poses no threat to the public and is not linked to any criminal activity.
