Houston Police Union Extends Tempting Offer to NYPD Officers Fed Up With NYC’s New Mayor – RedState

The fallout over the election of Democratic Socialist (communist) Zohran Mamdani as Mayor of New York is already making its effect known. People who can get out are, and in some locales, they are finding the welcome mat laid out.

One of those places is Houston, Texas. In Houston, the local police union is looking to recruit disgruntled New York Police Department officers, assuring them that in Texas, they will be once more gruntled.

A police union in Houston is attempting to recruit New York City cops “disgusted” with New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s victory.

The Houston Police Officers’ Union posted a graphic on Facebook late Tuesday asking, “NYPD, ARE YOU DISGUSTED WITH THE ELECTION OF ZOHRAN MAMDANI?”

“JOIN US!” the graphic continues. “THE HOUSTON POLICE DEPARTMENT IS HIRING POLICE OFFICERS!”

Houston is a city like any other, with the problems associated with big cities, but it’s a yard better than New York, especially under a mayor who has gone forth shouting about the need to defund the police, along with accusing the thin blue line of being racist and other nasty things.

Mamdani, a democratic socialist, secured New York City’s top job on Tuesday after defeating political heavyweight and former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The New York Assembly member had already bested Cuomo in the Democratic primary back in June, resulting in new nationwide attention toward him.

Mamdani in October apologized to the New York City Police Department (NYPD) for previous critiques directed toward the police force, in which he referred to them as “racist,” “wicked” and “corrupt.”

This isn’t the kind of thing, Mr. Mayor-Elect (shudder), that you can just apologize and walk away from. You think Bill de Blasio earned the disdain of the NYPD? Just wait until they get a load of you. Two data points are important here: 1) Mamdani is already staffing up with creatures of the far left, and 2) Key city figures are already heading for the exits.

The question at this point isn’t “Will any NYPD officers leave the city?” It is, rather, “How many NYPD officers will leave the city?” It seems unlikely the exodus will stop there. We have already seen signs that the real estate market in New York is about to see a surge in high-end vacancies, as productive citizens who remain in the Big Apple will bail as that apple goes bad. (I may rethink my use of the future tense here.) Now we may see an exodus of emergency services people as well, particularly cops.

This isn’t just a Mamdani thing. Democrats in general seem to have a hard time holding back their disdain for law enforcement. No less a political figure than Barack Obama was fond of making statements about police officers that were generally acknowledged as having involved his foot being so far in his mouth his kneecap was rubbing up against his Adam’s Apple.

We can only hope that at least one of the departing officers will quote Davy Crockett, saying:

You may all go to hell, and I will go to Texas.

Now that’s departing in style.
