It stands to reason that if we are to have a federal department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and an American Public Housing Authority, whose job it is to provide low-income Americans with cheap housing, that this service should be limited to American citizens. The taxpayers are on the hook for the cost, after all. This is paid for by Americans. It should be limited to Americans.
This hasn’t been the practice in the past, more notably not during the tenure of “Autopen Joe” Biden. But the times, they are a’changing. The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is ordering a review to confirm the legal presence of all residents, and threatening to cut funding to these projects if they do not comply with federal guidelines: Specifically, no illegal aliens in taxpayer-subsidized housing.
The Trump administration has ordered a nationwide review of public housing in an effort to root out residents who are in the country illegally, according to Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner announced Friday.
Turner wrote that each Public Housing Authority has 30 days to conduct an audit to ensure that the existing orders are enforced. The department is asking for information about the public housing units, as well as verifiable citizenship or “eligible immigration status.”
“No longer will illegal aliens be able to leave citizenship boxes blank or take advantage of HUD-funded housing, riding the coattails of hardworking American citizens,” Turner wrote.
As taxpaying citizens, we should all be chiming in with one comment: “It’s about time.” The Trump administration has been active from the outset in finding and eliminating areas in which people in the country illegally can be a drain on the taxpayers, so this is another move among many.

Regardless of what one thinks of the existence of taxpayer-subsidized housing, and the problems with these programs are many and varied, we should all be able to agree that they shouldn’t extend benefits to illegal immigrants. There are indications that eligible Americans are being squeezed out by the presence of illegal immigrants in the system; that should be ending now.
“Currently, HUD only serves one out of four eligible families due, in part, to the lack of enforcement of the prohibition against federally funded assistance to illegal aliens,” he continued.
If a program does not comply with the request, it could risk “examination” of its own federal funding.
Turner told Fox News Channel’s Charles Hurt on “Jesse Watters Primetime” on Friday that the DC Housing Authority was the first one to be placed on notice, but over 3,000 other PHAs are being told the same requirements nationwide, stressing that “American citizens will be prioritized.”
That could be a substantial number of people soaking up taxpayer-funded benefits to which they are not entitled.
There are, of course, serious practical and constitutional questions about the federal government being involved in subsidizing housing, no matter how it’s done. But that’s a discussion for another day; the fact is that today, now, it is being done, today, now, millions of people are still in the country illegally, and today, now, thousands (at least) of them may be taking up housing that should rightfully be occupied by American citizens and legal residents.
Any illegal aliens found in these subsidized housing units should be evicted – and should find an ICE officer awaiting them with a plane ticket back to where they came from.
