It had escaped my attention that the current winter storm is named “Fern.” From the New York Post,
Massive winter storm Fern’s icy blast grounds thousands of weekend flights, entire state warned to stay home for days.
It turns out that the state is Texas. Go figure. Scroll down to paragraph 12 where the Post reports,
Conditions were forecast to be so bad in some areas, particularly those pounded by ice, that experts say damage could rival a hurricane.
In Georgia,
In northern Georgia, officials advised drivers to stay off the roads for at least two days, with Will Lanxton, the senior state meteorologist, calling Fern “perhaps the biggest ice storm we have expected in more than a decade.”
A decade? You will recall the Atlanta storm of (checks notes) exactly one year ago when motorists were forced to abandon their cars on the highway for days.
In Virginia, the Washington Post reports.
DC., Md. and Va. declare state of emergency as massive winter storm nears.
You will recall a similar storm about four years ago when motorists were forced to abandon vehicles on Virginia’s Interstate 95.
Never-Trumper Jonah Goldberg, among others, took to social media to blame the fiasco on incoming (but not yet) Gov. Glenn Youngkin. Goldberg wrote,
If I was Glenn Youngkin, I’d be flooding the zone to get this I-95 crap fixed. DC suburbs are vengeful about this kind of thing.
The New York Post reported at the time.
While he followed up with a tweet admitting Youngkin was indeed not governor yet, Goldberg ultimately deleted his original post.
Typical.
