A journalist who had an encounter with Brooklyn Beckham has confessed that he wasn’t what she anticipated. Earlier this week, 26-year-old Brooklyn brought his family feud out into the open when he took to Instagram to make a series of allegations about his parents, Sir David Beckham and Lady Victoria Beckham.
In the post, he addressed rumours of the disagreement and what had prompted him to finally break his silence. He accused his mother of ‘hijacking’ the first dance with his wife Nicola Peltz at their wedding and claimed Sir David had excluded him from his 50th birthday celebrations.
The lengthy Instagram post has led many to reflect on their interactions with the photographer turned chef turned influencer, including journalist Julia Llewellyn Smith. Julia revealed that the Brooklyn she interviewed two years after his wedding was very different to how she’d expected him to be, reports the Mirror.
She said he appeared very loyal to his family and didn’t seem like he would disown them just a few years later. Among the signs of this was the fact that he still reportedly had a room in the family home in Holland Park, west London, and spoke affectionately about them.
Julia wrote in The Times: “At the time two years had passed since Beckham and Peltz’s wedding, which Beckham has now fingered as the turning point in relations with his family, but there seemed no doubt that he was close to his parents and siblings.
“Although the only question his PR commanded him not to answer concerned whether he was competitive with David about cooking – Beckham jokingly answered yes – he chatted away about how his father had taught him.”
Despite Brooklyn’s close ties with his family at 24, two years on he has chosen to forge his own path. In a shocking statement, Brooklyn expressed his hope that this move will ease his anxiety, something he claims to have battled with throughout his life.
Addressing his mother’s behaviour at his wedding, he revealed: “In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead. She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone.”
In his statement, he conveyed that he feels he has found relief and peace. He said: “I grew up with overwhelming anxiety. For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared.
“I wake up every morning grateful for the life I chose, and have found peace and relief. My wife and I do not want a life shaped by image, press, or manipulation.
“All we want peace, privacy and happiness for us and our future family.”
