From the White House (yes, that one),
New Milestone in Operation Metro Surge: 4,000+ Criminal Illegals Removed from Minnesota Streets.
Progress. The White House reports,
More than 4,000 criminal illegal aliens — including violent killers, rapists, gang members, and other public safety threats — have been arrested in Minnesota since President Donald J. Trump launched Operation Metro Surge.
Local media are fixated on another number, 700. From KARE-11 TV (NBC),
Border czar says 700 federal agents to leave Minnesota, around 2,000 remain:
Tom Homan updated the press Wednesday, saying communication between federal and local leaders has improved and they are taking 700 agents out of the state.
It would appear that Homan now has the situation well in hand. Local media dearly wish to portray this 1/4 drawdown as a defeat for Trump and a victory for “resistance.”
Either way, I’m not sure numbers tell the whole story. So, lets check anecdotes. From Minneapolis Star Tribune columnist Evan Ramstad,
An economic bomb has hit Lake Street:
Hispanic businesses are being hit hardest as customers and employees hide from federal agents — or leave Minnesota.
Lake Street in South Minneapolis has been for many decades the economic hub for the hispanic community in Minneapolis. More recently, it has seen a surge in Somali-ethnic businesses.
In the Feeding Our Future scandal, it was reported by Scott,
Feeding Our Future came to sponsor an astounding 21 “sites” on the 1.8 mile stretch of Lake Street singled out by Ms. Roase. Even more astounding, the “sites” allegedly came to serve 59,000 meals a day to 30,000 beneficiaries. The total enrollment of the Minneapolis School District is 33,000 students. Total meals served on this stretch allegedly reached 12.8 million by November 2021.
Baby steps.
