ICE Shooting Roils Minnesota | Power Line

ICE agents are out in force in Minneapolis, arresting criminal illegal aliens. They encountered opposition from the beginning, with local officials denouncing their presence and supporting the violation of our immigration laws. Liberal “protesters” turned out as well, illegally interfering with the ICE agents.

The inevitable happened: a liberal woman used her vehicle to block a street so that ICE agents were hemmed in and could not leave a residential neighborhood. Officers approached the woman’s vehicle to arrest her and told her to get out of the car. Instead of complying, she gunned her engine, driving directly at another ICE agent who was in the street. That agent shot the woman in self-defense, killing her.

These videos show the event; most likely more will emerge:

This one shows it best, zoomed and slowed down:

My colleague David Zimmer, a law enforcement professional, analyzes the incident and describes the fatal encounter this way:

The videos show a Maroon Honda Pilot stopped perpendicularly in front of an ICE vehicle as agents attempted to drive south on Portland Ave. Several agents got out of vehicles and began approaching the Honda. One agent can be heard ordering the driver out while he attempted to open the driver door. Another agent can be seen approaching the front of the Honda. The Honda’s driver, later determined to be a 37-year-old woman, then put the Honda in reverse for a few feet before rapidly driving forward into the agent approaching from the front. The front tires can be seen spinning as she accelerated toward the agent. The agent can be seen bracing himself against the driver’s side front end of the Honda as it came forward. The agent then appeared to fire multiple shots into the car as it drove into him, and as he successfully pushed himself to his right to avoid being run over.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey is one of those who denounced ICE and encouraged resistance to law enforcement, so he is partly responsible for the woman’s death. Of course, he doesn’t see it that way. He is already pontificating, improperly, unprofessionally and ignorantly, on the shooting:

It looks as though the liberals are hoping to turn this incident into George Floyd 2.0. What they really should do is look in the mirror. There is too much loose talk about the all-American virtue of “protesting.” Yes, we have the right to assemble peacefully, and many of us do it often. But we do not have the right to form a mob that threatens law enforcement and interferes with the execution of their duties. That is a crime, and it is deeply unfortunate that apparently no one spends even a night or two in jail in consequence of such actions. Still less, of course, do we have the right to endanger law enforcement personnel by driving our vehicles at them. Such conduct constitutes a deadly threat, and it was the cause of today’s tragic incident.
