ICE has detained an illegal immigrant accused of murdering a woman whose headless remains were discovered in a storage container, according to an official government statement.
Luis Mendoza-Gonzalez, a 52 year old undocumented migrant from Mexico, was apprehended on July 19 in Chicago following charges filed in April for concealing the corpse of a missing woman in a storage unit.
Mendoza-Gonzalez allegedly stored the body in his garden for two months.
The remains of Megan Bos, 37, were uncovered in the bleach-soaked container by Waukegan Police Department officers.
Bos had been reported as a missing person on March 9, 2025, reports the Express US.
The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that Bos’s body was found decapitated, however the victim’s family and other official sources dispute this account.
Prior to his ICE arrest, Mendoza-Gonzalez had been released on bail following his initial court hearing.

‘Depraved’ man charged
“Every day, ICE is arresting sickos like criminal illegal alien, Luis Mendoza-Gonzalez, and stopping them from terrorizing Americans. This depraved alien was charged with concealing the body of a missing woman in a storage container for months and abusing her corpse,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
“It is absolutely repulsive that a judge freed this monster and allowed him to walk free on Illinois’s streets after allegedly committing such a heinous crime. Under President Trump and Secretary Noem, Megan Bos and her family will have justice.”
Mendoza-Gonzalez is currently detained at Lake County Jail in Waukegan, Illinois, and could face deportation.
Victim’s mother speaks out
Jennifer Bos, the mother of the victim, spoke to ABC News about her efforts to seek justice following the tragic loss of her daughter. “It was so unexpected to have been told that she was found that way,” she said.
An autopsy suggested that Megan Bos may have died from a fentanyl overdose; however, it is alleged that Mendoza-Gonzalez was present at the time of her death, according to prosecutors. The Lake County Coroner has stated that the final cause of death is still under investigation.
“He had put her inside, covered her with a blanket. I was told there was a carpet over that, and there was a large amount of very strongly bleach-smelling liquid in the container with her,” Jennifer Bos revealed.

Trump: ‘watch what happens’
However, Jennifer Bos disputes the DHS’s claim that her daughter was decapitated. “She was not decapitated. No, definitely not,” the mother insisted.
The family voiced their frustration over Mendoza-Gonzalez’s pre-trial release in April due to his charges not meeting the criteria for continued detention under the Illinois SAFE-T Act.
“It has driven me mad every single day to think that he’s been out there,” Jennifer Bos admitted.
Jennifer Bos disclosed that since her daughter’s death, she has discovered that Megan Bos did know Mendoza-Gonzalez and the two would occasionally spend time together. Prosecutors are investigating how she came into possession of the fentanyl.
In July, Jennifer Bos attended a White House event for Donald Trump‘s Halt Fentanyl legislation and seized the opportunity to make her voice heard. “He started walking past, and I threw my hand in the air, and I said, ‘Mr. President,’ and he turned around and looked at me,” she recounted.
She believes her story struck a chord with the president, who responded, “Watch what happens.”

‘He could be free in days’
Just two days later, Mendoza-Gonzalez was apprehended by ICE, according to authorities.
“I am thrilled,” said Jennifer Bos. “I don’t know what’s going to happen now, but I do know he wasn’t sleeping in his bed last night.”
That same month, Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart released a statement disputing the decapitation claims made by DHS.
“The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office has been in constant contact with the family about Megan’s death and the ongoing investigations by the Waukegan Police Department and the Lake County Coroner’s office into the circumstances of her death and discovery of her body, which includes how and when she obtained fentanyl and what role that may have played in her death,” the statement read.
“As was previously reported, the initial autopsy reports showed no signs of trauma or a struggle, and at no point was Megan decapitated before or after her death. While we have not been contacted by ICE, we are preparing an official request that this offender be held locally. As we have told the family, we believe that a criminal trial and sentencing is more appropriate than deportation procedures.
“The defendant is charged with several felonies, which can result in potential consecutive prison sentences upon a conviction. As people know, deportation to another country does not lead to prison in that country. If he were to agree to deportation, he could be free in days. We are hopeful that he will be brought to court so that he can be held fully accountable for his actions.”
