The carefully constructed lattice of lies woven by former Des Moines public school superintendent Ian Roberts has come undone.
I say “former” because the Des Moines school board met last night for their third emergency meeting in four days and accepted Dr. Roberts’ second-hand resignation. Fox News reports,
The board voted 7–0 Tuesday night to accept Superintendent Ian Roberts’ resignation, with one board member wiping away tears as she read a statement in Spanish.
iAy Dios Mío! To be clear, Roberts is apparently a native and citizen of Guyana, where the official language is English.
For someone accused of immigration fraud, voter fraud, and weapons charges, there seems to be genuine surprise that Roberts may have also padded his resume. From the Des Moines Register,
MIT, George Washington dispute Ian Roberts’ claims about academic credentials, honors.
“MIT”? If you are just going to make up fake academic credentials, go big or go home. The Register reports,
“The MIT Registrar’s Office has no record of enrollment for a person with the name Ian Andre Roberts,” spokesperson Sarah McDonnell said in an email.
And not just MIT,
But the resume does include another illegitimate academic credential. Roberts wrote that he received a doctoral degree in urban educational leadership from Morgan State University in July 2007. A spokesperson for the school told the Register on Monday that Roberts did not receive the degree, despite enrolling from the fall of 2002 to the spring of 2007.
Byron York of the Washington Examiner digs into some of the less-reported aspects of the bizarre story.
Since the kerfuffle erupted in Des Moines late last week, some of Roberts’ previous work stops in Maryland and Pennsylvania are looking into his hiring.
Eventually, Netflix will make a documentary on the whole affair.
