Iran Fired and Missed, But…

Iran fired two intermediate range ballistic missiles at the important U.K.-U.S. base at Diego Garcia, in the Indian Ocean. They missed: one reportedly failed in flight, while the second was intercepted.

But the significant point is that Iran has intermediate range missiles, something they have consistently lied about. Diego Garcia is around 2,500 miles from Iran, which means that Iranian intermediate range missiles can hit much of Western Europe.

The relatively robust response that whoever is left in charge of Iran has made to our air attack reinforces the fact that President Trump struck the Islamic Republic in the nick of time. If Iran had been able to continue developing its armaments for another decade or two–this project has been ongoing since 1979–it may well have become too dangerous for a preemptive attack, and it may have launched a doomsday attack against the West at a time of its choosing. We owe President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu a debt of gratitude for forestalling that nightmare scenario. It was a necessary act for which, alas, they may not get credit in their lifetimes.
