ROME (LifeSiteNews) – Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni blasted leftist activists for “celebrating” the death of Conservative influencer Charlie Kirk, saying his “cold-blooded murder” will not “intimidate” the fight for “freedom” in Europe.
“I come from a political community that has often been unfairly accused of spreading hatred … by the very same people who today remain silent, downplay or even justify or celebrate the premeditated, intentional, cold-blooded murder of a 31-year-old man,” she said in Italian, translated to English, while speaking at a party event in Rome over the weekend.
Meloni said leftists are “justifying political hatred” as the “the climate, even here in Italy, is becoming unsustainable.”
“Hate and political violence are dramatically becoming a reality again, causing many problems to come to a head,” she said.
Meloni noted how the hatred is “scary” because when you have “no arguments, you fear those who have them.”
“I have seen it happen many times. Those who have no arguments are left with only the weapon of criminalization, the weapon of insult, the adversary’s weapon of unpresentable, the weapon of violence that always begins as verbal violence but sometimes also becomes physical violence,” she said.
As reported by LifeSiteNews, Kirk, the CEO of Turning Point USA (TPUSA), was shot in the neck during an event on the campus of Utah Valley University last Wednesday and later died. Many leftist activists and politicians have been caught online celebrating his death.
Law enforcement has Kirk’s alleged shooter in custody, as reported by LifeSiteNews.
Meloni pays ‘tribute’ to Kirk’s ‘sacrifice’ while speaking to conservative allies in Spain
This past weekend, Meloni was not done speaking out about Kirk’s death and gave a touching tribute to him via video conference as a guest speaker at the Europa Viva 25 event in Madrid, Spain, hosted by the Spanish Conservative/Right of center party Vox.
“I want to pay tribute to Charlie Kirk, a young man, a brave father, who paid the price for his freedom with his life. His sacrifice reminds us once again which side violence and intolerance are on,” she said in Italian, translated to English.
Meloni is known for speaking her mind and has criticized the LGBT lobby and gender ideology movement at times.
During her time in power, she restricted same-sex couples’ adoption of children and made it illegal for Italian couples to acquire a baby via surrogacy abroad.
Meloni vowed that those who stand for freedom will not “play into the hands of those who want to drag our nations into a spiral of violence.”
“They will not intimidate us, we will continue to fight for the freedom of our people and for the future of Europe,” she said to cheers.
