JB Pritzker Does Himself No Favors With Reaction to Brandon Johnson’s Anti-Trump Meltdown – RedState

As RedState reported, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) held a press conference on Monday in Chicago in response to President Donald Trump suggesting on Friday that the Windy City could be next on his list for a National Guard-assisted crime crackdown.

At the time, Trump stated that “Chicago’s a mess, you have an incompetent mayor – grossly incompetent – and we’ll straighten that one out probably next. That will be our next one after this.”

Despite pleas from fed-up residents for the help, Pritzker demanded that Trump stay out of Chicago, warning of a lawsuit if he didn’t.

“We will see the Trump administration in court. The state of Illinois is ready to stand against this military deployment with every peaceful tool we have,” Pritzker proclaimed.

Democrat Brandon Johson, the “grossly incompetent mayor” to whom Trump was referring, was also at the presser. When it was his turn to speak, Johnson had a normal one, declaring an alleged “addiction” to “jails and incarceration” for criminal offenders was “racist,” “immoral,” and “unholy”:

We cannot incarcerate our way out of violence. We’ve already tried that, and we’ve ended up with the largest prison population in the world without solving the problems of crime and violence. The addiction on jails and incarceration in this country – we have moved past that. It is racist, it is immoral, it is unholy, and it is not the way to drive violence down. We cannot return to the same failed strategies that got us here in the first place.

It was Pritzker applauding Johnson’s anti-law-and-order diatribe that caught my attention, though.

Watch:

Funny, but I thought “failed strategies” involved things like “bail reform” and letting repeat offenders out on the streets to commit crimes again and again, both of which were part of the problems in Washington, D.C. that prompted Trump to federalize law enforcement in the first place.

Presumably, Johnson doesn’t have 2028 presidential aspirations, but I think it’s pretty clear that Prtizker does. And yet there he is, giving endorsement to the exact soft-on-crime approach proposed by Democrats and their affiliated professional social justice wacktivists that have made large blue cities in America so crime-riddled that people are fleeing to safer states, and in some cases are also leaving the Democrat Party behind in the process.

To be sure, it’s not the first time Pritzker has taken this approach; Republicans in the state have long accused him of being soft on crime. But his show of support for such stances in the larger context of pushing back on Trump’s efforts to curb crime, an area the president polls very well on, is not going to do Pritzker any favors in 2028. And it won’t do much in the way of helping Democrats during the 2026 midterms, either.

Despite this message hurting them in 2020 and in 2024, Democrats are continuing to double down on it – and at a time when the polling reflects that a majority of Americans trust Republicans and Trump more than Democrats on the crime issue, as we also reported:

Keep doing what you’re doing, though, Democrats. You’re doing great.
