Kennedy Center Honors American Icons

President Trump presented the 48th annual Kennedy Center Honors at the White House yesterday. The honorees, as described at the Kennedy Center site, were country superstar George Strait, members of the rock band KISS, actor Michael Crawford, disco star Gloria Gaynor, and Sylvester Stallone. Putting aside the fact that Crawford is British, the theme of this year’s awards was the honorees’ status as American icons and patriots.

Here are the honorees in the Oval Office. Note that George Strait wore, as always, a cowboy hat:

We had the honor of seeing Gloria Gaynor, still going strong, at the Dakota Jazz Club with Scott and Sally Johnson. She was terrific. George Strait is probably my favorite performer, ever. This is what the Kennedy Center site says about him:

George Strait is the unambiguous “King of Country Music,” with over 100 million RIAA certifications while earning more than 60 major entertainment industry awards as well as countless nominations and becoming the only act in history to have a Top 10 hit every year for over three decades. Offstage, Strait’s philanthropy has raised tens of millions of dollars for military and children’s causes, including the Jenifer Strait Foundation to preserve the memory of their daughter and presenting 127 mortgage-free homes to wounded veterans through the Military Warriors Support Foundation.

Like many country musicians, Strait is an unabashed American patriot. Kudos to President Trump on this year’s selections.
