Hollywood actor Kiefer Sutherland has been arrested in Los Angeles after allegedly assaulting a rideshare driver in the early hours of Monday morning.
The 24 star was taken into custody on suspicion of making criminal threats following an incident just south of the Hollywood Hills, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
The LAPD said officers were called to reports of an assault shortly after midnight. Investigators allege the British-born Canadian actor entered a rideshare vehicle before physically attacking the driver and making threats towards them.
Police confirmed the driver did not require medical treatment after the alleged attack.
Sutherland, 59, was arrested and later released from jail a few hours afterwards on a USD$50,000 (£37,192) bond, according to prison records cited by the Associated Press. His first court appearance is scheduled for February 2.
Attempts by AP to contact Sutherland’s representatives for comment were unsuccessful.
The actor has a history of alcohol-related offences. In 2007, he served time in jail after pleading no contest to a drink-driving charge.
He was also convicted of drunk driving in 2004 and has faced several other alcohol-related arrests dating back to the 1990s.
Sutherland is best known for his long-running role as counter-terrorism agent Jack Bauer in the hit Fox series 24 and its spin-offs. His film credits include The Lost Boys, Young Guns, Stand by Me and A Few Good Men.
He is the son of late Hollywood legend Donald Sutherland.
