‘Left to Die’ campaign demands protections for babies born alive after abortions

(LifeSiteNews) – A new campaign to demand protections for babies who were born alive after failed abortions has seen massive success, with organizers saying they have witnessed “remarkable” interest from the general public.

Left to Die” is the brainchild of Prolife Alberta. Its goal is to expose the Alberta Health Services (AHS) policy that allows babies born alive after botched abortions to die without care.

Prolife Alberta told LifeSiteNews that since LeftToDie.ca was launched in late September the “response has been remarkable.”

“It has awakened something long dormant — a sense of moral urgency that transcends politics,” a Prolife Alberta representative said.

“For many Albertans, it is the first time they have confronted the grim reality that our legal vacuum on abortion extends even beyond birth — and that such silence carries a human cost.”

According to Prolife Alberta, in 2024, “28 babies born alive after failed abortions in one year.”

The group said that the babies were offered “No resuscitation. No oxygen. No medical care” under “current AHS guidelines.”

“This isn’t a fringe claim — it’s confirmed by government statistics,” the group said.

According to Prolife Alberta, Alberta’s United Conservative Party (UCP) government under Premier Danielle Smith “has the authority to rewrite AHS policy to require that infants born alive after a failed abortion receive the same degree of care as any other newborn child.”

“A baby’s right to life and medical care should not change because he or she was born during an abortion,” the group said.

The group is urging Albertans to sign up to support “Left to Die” and contact their local Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to “support” a “policy revision” of AHS guidelines, saying it “should be common-sense and bipartisan.”

“Children are not failed procedures — they are human beings. Regardless of party affiliation, every MLA should stand in defense of life and care, and against infanticide,” the group said.

“No newborn’s right to life and care should ever hinge on whether they were ‘wanted,’” it added.

According to official data from the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), which is the federal agency in charge of reporting the nation’s health data, there were a staggering 133 late-term abortions in 2023-2024 in Alberta. Of these, 28 babies were born alive after the abortion and left to die.

Prolife Alberta executive director Richard Dur recently exposed this in an opinion piece published by the Western Standard.

As reported by LifeSiteNews recently, 150 babies were born after botched abortions in 2023-2024 in Canada. However, it’s not known how many survived.

Similarly, reports from 2018 have indicated that 766 babies were born alive after late-term abortions in Canada between 2013 and 2018 and presumably left to die.

LifeSiteNews recently reported that Canada’s birth rate has plunged to an all-time low for the second year in a row and shows no signs of improving anytime soon.
