Loftus dog attack: Pensioner mauled by huge dog as police swarm street | UK | News

Two men, including one aged 74, have been attacked by a “large dog” as emergency services race to the scene in Loftus, North Yorkshire.

A 50-year-old man was also bitten and is receiving treatment for an injury to the wrist.

Police have arrested the 64-year-old owner of the dog in connection with the attack, which occurred at around 9:25am on Friday, October 31.

The 74-year-old is still in hospital with a serious arm injury.

Cleveland Police described the dog as a large crossbreed. The animal was contained by officers and has now been taken to a specialist kennel.

Witnesses said six police vehicles descended on the scene following the attack while two ambulance were also present.

The arrested man has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called to an incident on West Road, Loftus, shortly before 9.30am on Friday 31 October. We dispatched two double-crewed ambulances and a specialist paramedic. Two patients were taken to James Cook University Hospital.

A spokesperson for the force said: “The 74-year-old man sustained a serious injury to his arm and is still receiving hospital treatment. A 50-year-old man was also bitten by the dog and he received treatment to his wrist at hospital before being discharged. The dog’s owner, a 64-year-old man, was arrested in connection with the incident and was interviewed then bailed pending further enquiries.”
