Motorists travelling on the M1 faced severe delays on Thursday morning. An accident, which National Highways said involved a vehicle that had left the carriageway, prompted the closure of the motorway southbound between junctions 37 and 36.
Motorists were urged to avoid the area, with traffic piling up and severe delays expected. Traffic cameras at 7am showed queues already forming on junction 35. National Highways added normal traffic conditions were not expected before 11am.
