M5 traffic: Snow chaos as trucks slide on motorway during Storm Goretti | UK | News

Drivers on the M5 faced long delays on Thursday as heavy snow brought by the  raging Storm Goretti battered the area. Motorists faced the partial closure of the M5 northbound between junctions J4 and J3 on the evening of January 8 due to the weather. National Highways said two out of three lanes were closed as of 8.50pm.

In an update issued after 9pm, the organisation said that: “We have traffic officers, snow ploughs, winter salting and heavy recovery units.” The organisation said there were up to 60 minutes of delays in the area. Traffic cameras captured shortly before 9pm appeared to show lorries sliding on the motorway. This comes as several weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office ahead of the arrival to Britain of the storm, which is now battering the country with heavy snow, winds and rain.
