M6 traffic LIVE: Rush-hour chaos as fire sparks ‘complex operation’ – 90-minute delay | UK | News

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed crews were called to a trailer unit on fire, believed to have been caused by a brake fault on the M6 North between junctions 20 and 21.

It said two fire engines from Lymm and Birchwood and one fire engine from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service attended.

The service added: “All persons were accounted for. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to tackle the fire on the trailer, which was transporting grain.”A three-lane road closure was put in place while the incident was dealt with. Specialist mats were used to prevent any spillage from the trailer entering nearby drains, and a dam was put in place on the trailer to prevent any further product from being spilled.”Firefighters cut away parts of the trailer to check for any signs of smoke, and a thermal imaging camera was used to monitor the temperature of the trailer and the surrounding area.”The product was removed from the trailer, and the incident was handed over to National Highways.”
