We’re now learning more about the gunman who allegedly shot up a classroom at Old Dominion University (ODU) in Norfolk, Virginia, on Thursday morning, and it’s going to have people asking a lot of questions about immigration and justice in the United States.
As RedState reported earlier Thursday, the gunman opened fire just before 10:50 a.m. at ODU’s Constant Hall; early reports indicated two people were injured and the gunman was dead. That gunman has now been identified as 36-year-old Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, and it now appears he, along with one of his victims, has died.
It also looks like Jalloh, a naturalized citizen from Sierra Leone, targeted the ROTC program at the school; his victim is said to be a former military officer who was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital. Several ROTC students are reported to have neutralized Jalloh and ended the carnage.
Here’s a bit more about what happened:
Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, 36, stormed into a classroom inside ODU’s Constant Hall and asked if it was an ROTC class. When someone confirmed that it was, he opened fire, shooting the professor several times, law enforcement sources said.
A heroic ROTC student jumped into action before more damage was done, stabbing Jalloh to death after the crazed suspect gunned down the class instructor, the sources said.
One ODU student confirmed Jalloh was a student at the university, and identified the alleged shooter as being Muslim.

The story gets worse from here.
It turns out that Jalloh, who apparently once served in the Army National Guard, had previously been convicted in federal court for “attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), a designated foreign terrorist organization.” He told federal officials in 2016 that he had fantasies about carrying out an attack styled on the 2009 Ft. Hood terror attack that resulted in 13 deaths.

Jalloh ultimately served seven years and 10 months of his 11-year sentence, and was released in December of 2024. He was supposed to be on five years of supervised released upon his return to society.

“Jalloh praised the gunman who killed five U.S. military members in a terrorist attack in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in July 2015, and stated that he had been thinking about conducting an attack similar to the November 2009 attack at Ft. Hood, Texas.”
FBI Director Kash Patel didn’t address the issue of whether or not Jalloh was under supervised release at the time of the shooting, but did confirm the event is being investigated as an act of terrorism.

Earlier today, an armed individual opened fire at Old Dominion University, leaving one person dead and two others wounded. The shooter is now deceased thanks to a group of brave students who stepped in and subdued him – actions that undoubtedly saved lives along with the quick response of law enforcement.
The FBI is now investigating the shooting as an act of terrorism. Our Joint Terrorism Task Force is fully engaged, embedded with local authorities, and providing all resources necessary in the investigation.
In the meantime, please pray for the victims, their families, and the ODU community.
If the last name “Jalloh” sounds familiar to you, that’s because you read it recently here on the pages of RedState. Abdul Jalloh, an illegal also from Sierra Leone, was arrested last week and is suspected of stabbing to death 41-year-old mother Stephanie Minter at a bus shelter in Northern Virginia.
The matching surnames may just be a coincidence, but, either way, we have two Muslims from Sierra Leone committing violent acts on Americans in as many weeks. We’ve got a big, big problem here, folks.
This is a developing story.
