Manchester crash RECAP: Travel chaos with trains ‘cancelled and delayed’ after bus crash | UK | News

Services to and from Manchester Victoria faced disruption after a bus crashed into a bridge during the morning of July 22. The collision happened in Ten Acres Lane, in Newton Heath, with pictures from the scene seemingly showing a Metroline Manchester driver training bus wedged underneath the bridge.

The crash is believed to have occurred some time before 8.30am, Manchester Evening News reports.

Earlier National Rail warned that “all lines” were blocked between Manchester Victoria and Stalybridge.

Passengers were told that as a result, “trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 45 minutes or diverted”, with disruption initially  expected until 11am.

Northern and TransPennine Express services were among those affected.

In an subsequent update, National Rail said an inspection found no damage to the bridge, and that all lines had reopened, with disruption expected to continue until noon.

National Rail has since said the disruption caused by the crash has now ended.

Metroline said in a statement: “We are aware of the incident involving a training bus on Ten Acres Lane. We can confirm there are no injuries. The bus has been removed from the scene and we will be conducting a full investigation.”
