Maryland Man headed for Uganda?

Perhaps. But first, some good news for Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, from Politico,

Kilmar Abrego Garcia is freed from Tennessee jail so he can rejoin family in Maryland to await trial.

Maryland Man’s taste of freedom may be short-lived. Bill Melugin of Fox News reports on Twitter (X),

DHS notified Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s counsel via email that ICE may deport Abrego Garcia to Uganda “no earlier than 72 hours from now”, & ICE is also ordering him to report to ICE’s Baltimore office on Monday.

I do hope he can enjoy the weekend. The Orioles are hosting the Houston Astros this weekend, if he’s looking for suggestions.

To recap his backstory from memory: an illegal alien, Abrego was ordered to be deported in 2019, but not to his native El Salvador, on account of gang affiliations. Nonetheless, he was shipped back to El Salvador earlier this year, spent some time in their Supermax prison, sipped a margarita, then was returned to Tennessee to face federal felony charges for human smuggling.

Now the feds seem intent on honoring the 2019 order and deporting him to a third-country, in this case, Uganda.

For reasons I will never understand, Maryland Man became a cause celebre of Democrats, their poster child of the cruelty and unfairness of Trump’s new, tough immigration policies. They have been relentless in their efforts to free him to live out his days back in Baltimore.

Every media outlet on the planet really, really wants you to know that he was ordered freed in defiance of the Trump Administration this afternoon. From a Google search of his name, I find stories on his release from custody published in the last six hours by ABC, AP, BBC, CBS, CNN, Fox, MSNBC, NBC, NPR, PBS, Baltimore Sun, The Boston Globe, The UK Daily Mail, The UK Guardian, The UK Independent, The UK Mirror, Le Monde, The Times of India, New York Post, New York Times, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Bloomberg, Forbes, The Hill, Newsweek, Reuters, and I’m sure I missed some, and I didn’t count any local outlets.

The Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor didn’t rate this level of coverage.

Back to Politico,

Kilmar Abrego Garcia was released from jail in Tennessee on Friday so he can rejoin his family in Maryland while awaiting trial on human smuggling charges.

Details,

On Friday, after two months, Abrego Garcia walked out of the Putnam County [TN] jail wearing a short-sleeved white button-down shirt and black pants and accompanied by defense attorney Rascoe Dean and two other men. They did not speak to reporters but got into a white SUV and sped off.

I’m led to understand that the “two other men” were hired private security. For a man who is officially unemployed, he seems to have money for lawyers, private security and private transportation. Who’s footing the bill?

From the New York Post,

The illegal migrant is en route to the Old Line State with a private security escort — returning for the first time since he was mistakenly booted from the country in March — but has just 48 hours to reach his brother’s house, where he will remain under strict home detention conditions.

So, perhaps the O’s game is out.
