Law enforcement compared the security for the Super Bowl to what will be in place for the memorial on Sunday in Arizona for Charlie Kirk, after he was killed by an assassin’s bullet on September 10th on the Utah Valley University campus in Orem, Utah.
Glendale Police Department spokesman Jose Santiago told KTAR News 92.3 FM, “This is at the level of the Super Bowl,” for the memorial. The city last hosted the Super Bowl in February 2023. It was the fourth time it had done so.
“When we’ve had these mega events, we’ve had upwards of two years to plan for these events,” he added. “For this particular event, we’ve had about a week to get prepared. The good news is that Glendale knows how to handle these mega events, and we handle them well.”
“Right now, it’s all hands on deck,” Santiago continued. “Pretty much everyone that we have that can work is working to make sure that this event goes off successfully and safely…The challenge that we’re facing here is that when we have something like the Super Bowl, that is a ticketed event. So we know exactly how many people are going to be attending. This particular event is not a ticketed event.”

Turning Point USA told those attending the event for its late founder to expect “TSA-level” security on Sunday at State Farm Stadium.
The group also asked people to register at FightForCharlie.com so they can give the authorities some idea for how many people they can expect, ensuring they have enough manpower in the city for the event to run smoothly.
“Even though they are registering folks, there are going to be people that won’t register and still will want to attend,” the police spokesperson explained. “So really, that’s where the challenge lies.”
Here’s some of the guidance for the memorial from TPUSA, which can be found here:
NO BAG POLICY IN EFFECT: Guests arriving with bags, even clear bags, will NOT be permitted entry. You will be required to return the bag to your vehicle and rejoin the line from the end.
Please be advised that enhanced security measures are in place, which may result in longer wait times than usual. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
In lieu of flowers, we kindly invite you to honor Charlie’s legacy by supporting us at tpusa.com. If you do have any material items, please do not bring them to State Farm Stadium. Instead, they may be delivered to Turning Point USA Headquarters.
A list of those who are expected to give remarks at his memorial can be found below. It includes his widow Erika Kirk, President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and so many more.

Across this country, people have been impacted by Kirk’s shocking murder, with students and adults attending vigils to remember him. Kirk’s impact could even be felt on Thursday when more than 7,000 people in the deep blue state of Colorado showed up to attend a prescheduled event in which Kirk was slated to headline. It turned into a memorial.
They filled the seats at Colorado State University stadium, where they would’ve come to hear Kirk speak at his second planned stop on his American Comeback Tour before he was murdered by suspected killer Tyler Robinson while he was speaking with college kids on the Utah campus just over one week ago.
