You would think that most media would jump on the Nick Shirley story, a story with a viral video with many questions about Minnesota daycare centers. It’s one of those things you would think that journalists would love to dig into, to ferret out the truth.
But that would be actual journalists. And then there’s our present liberal media. Some seem more concentrated on trying to debunk what Shirley was exposing than on finding out the facts.
CNN had a correspondent confront Shirley outside of one of the daycare centers, asking him about his story, as our sister site Townhall reported. Shirley said he stood by his story, but he invited them to do their “own analysis.”

“So we can make our own analysis?” Whitney Wild responded. What a concept.
They then showed their correspondent, Wild, saying they were looking into the claims. She said they “reached out” to several of the centers that Shirley had visited, “Only one answered and said they are a legitimate business.”
Well, I guess everything is cool, then. They say they’re good, so it must be true. What did she expect them to say?
Maybe there’s an issue there if other centers aren’t calling back? And maybe instead of interviewing Shirley, you should be interviewing the people at the centers?
The reporter also seemed to have a strange take on the prior prosecutions for fraud, as though that was rebutting Shirley’s report. Wild noted the prior prosecutions (which dealt with different areas of fraud) and the efforts of the Minnesota Republicans who previously raised questions. But that only confirms there have been systemic issues for some time in the state.
People were not amused by the CNN effort.
This could be the most pathetic reporting I have seen. The reporter calls the daycare centers to ask them if they are legitimate. I kid you not. How is this supposed to determine whether fraud is taking place? Are they expecting the centers to say ‘Yes. We are committing fraud.’… https://t.co/8Eboiw3luh

The Trump administration has now frozen child care payments to Minnesota and demanded a comprehensive audit of the places mentioned in Shirley’s video. The administration also said they are requiring receipts for any state to get the money in the future.

The administration has also sent a lot of assets into the state to investigate, in addition to all the efforts they have already made regarding prior prosecutions.
So no matter what the media says, or what the Democrats like Tim Walz might spew, the Trump team is going all in to resolve the issues of fraud in the state.
