An Express.co.uk poll has revealed that Meghan Markle’s reported move into the hospitality business would not be welcomed by an extremely large majority of people. It comes as The Duchess of Sussex, 43, is said to be trademarking her lifestyle firm As Ever for “hospitality services”, as reported by The Sun.
It is believed this will include places to stay, “provision of food and drink” and temporary lodgings for guests. While this has not been confirmed by the Duchess herself, it is also anticipated these places to stay could serve As Ever products and some of Meghan’s own food creations, including those shown on her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan. In a devastating blow to the Duchess of Sussex, a huge 97% of those taking part in the poll, (5,555 readers), voted ‘no’ to the question posed: “Would you want to stay in a hotel owned by Meghan Markle?” Just 2% (107 readers) sid they would would like to stay in a hotel owned by the Duchess of Sussex, whereas 1% of voters (32 readers) were unsure.
The business idea is believed to also reflect Meghan’s love of hosting – something she made very clear on her Netflix show.
While exact details are not yet known about Meghan’s alleged upcoming move to the hospitality industry, the news has already got royal fans talking in the comments of the poll article.
One reader said: “It sounds like she wants to open a Soho House. Back to her roots?”
Another said: “I think most of us would sooner stay in a Travel Lodge, at least you get value for money!”
Whereas one fan, referring to her sold out As Ever products, wrote: “I’m sure ALL rooms will sell out in 45 minutes!!!!”
The Duchess of Sussex is working hard to rebuild her career and image, and had a new Netflix lifestyle series aired earlier this year.
The show featured a mix of cooking, gardening, beekeeping, and flower arranging, with celebrity guests such as Mindy Kaling and renowned chefs Roy Choi and Alice Waters.
Meghan posted her excitement for a series two, which will be aired in the autumn.
She will also be re-stocking her As Ever products on her website soon, writing on Instagram: “To all who’ve been wondering and waiting, thank you!
“Your favorites are returning, plus a few NEW things we can’t wait to show you. Coming this month…get excited!”
