A royal expert has criticised Meghan Markle for not speaking out on her husband’s recent public court case and charity fiasco, claiming that it speaks volumes about their relationship. The expert called on Meghan to speak out in support of her husband after he stepped down from his role at the Sentebale charity, which he set up in memory of his late mum, Princess Diana. The couple have just signed a new deal with streaming giant Netflix, which is understood to be worth less than their previous deal with the company.
In a statement, Meghan Markle said that they were “inspired” by Netflix, a streaming service that they say shares their vision. Now, Meghan Markle is being criticised by Dr Tessa Dunlop, who said the deal is a “downgrade” compared to their last signing with Netflix. She claimed that Prince Harry has consistently spoken out in support of his wife, and questioned why Meghan hadn’t done the same when Prince Harry stepped down from Senteble after the relationship with the charity’s chairwoman “broke down beyond repair”.
Dr Dunlop told The Mirror: “Now that Meghan and Harry have signed a new Netflix deal (‘looser’ and apparently less lucrative than the previous $78m one but a deal nonetheless), might the Duchess find her voice? Not the one she volubly uses to hawk As Ever wares (in conjunction with Netflix) but rather the voice Meghan famously re-found after leaving the Royal Family, the one that talked her truth to royal power and surely could talk her truth to the Sentebale fiasco?
“No, really, why hasn’t Meghan come out batting for Prince Harry in his latest round of verbal fisty-cuffs concerning his former African charity? After all, the Duke has consistently spoken out in support of his wife, establishing the precedent early on and against the wishes of his family when he condemned Britain’s media coverage and insisted he had never before witnessed such a ‘degree of pressure, scrutiny and harassment’ from the press.”
Amid the charity row, which ultimately saw Prince Harry stepping down, Meghan Markle was dragged into the drama when chairwoman Dr Chandauka accused her of causing a stir with tennis icon Serena Williams at the Sentebale Polo match fundraiser.
However, those claims were later rubbished by sources close to the couple. Harry was said to be “heartbroken” over the decision to step away from the charity, which he set up back in 2006.
Dr Dunlop added: “As Meghan was part of the problem that was criticised for playing ‘out publicly’, please could she offer her beleaguered husband a verbal panacea?”
