Prince Harry and Meghan Markle usually maintain privacy around their Thanksgiving festivities, yet this year may differ as Meghan develops her lifestyle brand and the holidays could serve as a marketing opportunity.
As Thanksgiving draws near, Royal commentator and consumer research specialist Pauline Maclaran offered insights into how the Sussexes might approach the forthcoming festive period.
Maclaran expressed worries that Meghan’s business aspirations might potentially hinder Harry’s attempts to mend his bond with his father, King Charles, which Prince William is said to be increasingly supportive of.
“Meghan certainly seems to have been sharing more of their private side so she may feature their Thanksgiving celebrations in some way on her Instagram,” Maclaran said.
She explained why heightened social media engagement could prove troublesome: “It does seem Harry is trying not to stir things with his family. I imagine he would like to see his father more frequently and is mindful of how his behaviors may impact on the King.”, reports the Express US.
William has allegedly grown more open to the prospect of Harry’s reintegration into the Royal fold, creating extra pressure on Harry to proceed with caution.
Harry seems conscious of this fragile dynamic and has been carefully monitoring his public remarks and conduct.
Whilst certain situations remain outside his influence – including spontaneous photographs of him and Meghan appearing online – other elements prove more controllable. However, Meghan’s expanding Instagram activity, whilst welcomed by Royal fans, might accidentally sabotage Harry’s attempts at mending fences with the Royal Family.
Meghan is being advised to tread carefully when mixing family affairs with commercial pursuits.
Maclaran doesn’t expect Meghan to “make a big deal over Thanksgiving” as she has different objectives in her sights.
“Certainly there’s a gift box of jams featured on her As ever site and talk of the ‘holiday season’ but more in line with Christmas rather than Thanksgiving,” Maclaran said.
“I suspect she is saving most of her efforts for the Christmas trade which makes sense as there is much more gift-giving at this time. Her products are ideal as presents!”.
“Given her product range, which is much more suitable for presents, I think it would be a mistake to promote her range too much for Thanksgiving given how close to Christmas it is and the risk of consumer fatigue.”
