“The problem is exactly the same if you house them in the community and house them there”, he said.
“There are 720,000 empty homes in England, so you could repurpose those. The problem there is, you also have double the number of people on social housing waiting lists also after those homes.

“However you look at it, it’s a real major problem. The answer is, at least in the short-term, if they can find military bases. They are looking at things like student accommodation.
“Those are only sticking plasters.”
Lee Anderson hit back at Nigel Nelson’s suggestion for housing asylum seekers

Lee countered by arguing the Government should not be sniffing out any accommodation for illegal migrants and should instead be focused on deporting them.
Nigel said little can be done about the extensive small boat operation which has seen thousands of migrants making the crossing just this year.
“Yes there is”, Lee hit back, adding: “We’ve had this conversation many times. You turn them around.
“I tell you what, Nigel. How about we detain them in secure camps, guarded by proper security, these young men, if they knew they would be detained and not allowed to claim asylum before being deported to a third country, they wouldn’t get on a boat in the first place.”
Nigel said illegal migrants cannot be classed as criminals, meaning such actions are impossible.
The GB News star was quick to point out that the migrants were attempting to enter the country illegally, therefore making them lawbreakers.
“If I was to do passport control coming back from Spain and I couldn’t show my passport, I would be arrested”, he said.
Nigel pointed out: “If you came and claimed asylum immediately, you wouldn’t. That’s the get out. There’s nothing illegal about crossing the Channel in a small boat.”
The Labour Government has pledged to end the use of migrant hotels by 2029 by cutting small boat crossings and speeding up decisions on asylum claims.
Home Office Minister Dan Jarvis said today the Government needs to be able to deal with the crisis without having migrants booted out of hotels in the short term.
The Home Office is set to challenge the High Court’s decision to grant the injunction, but could be set for a Reform UK-induced headache.
Nigel Farage has said all 12 councils controlled by his party will “do everything in their power to follow Epping’s lead”.
