Boxing legend Mike Tyson has heaped praise on newly-crowned WBC light-heavyweight champion David Benavidez, describing him as “underrated” and a formidable force in the division.
Tyson, widely considered one of the most fearsome heavyweights in boxing history, made the comments in a recent interview with ESNEWS.
The 58-year-old former undisputed heavyweight champion, who retired after his controversial bout with Jake Paul last November, didn’t hold back in his admiration for Benavidez.
Tyson’s endorsement carries significant weight given his own remarkable career, which saw him become the youngest world heavyweight champion in boxing history after defeating Trevor Berbick in 1985.

In his interview, Tyson was unequivocal about Benavidez’s abilities, stating: “I like him against everybody.
“He’s so underrated but so over-polarised here. Listen, I’d be afraid to fight him too if I was in that division.”
The former heavyweight champion, known as ‘Iron Mike’, went even further with his assessment.
“No one even has a chance against him, and I’m talking facts,” he declared.

Benavidez, commonly known as ‘The Monster’, has emerged as one of boxing’s brightest stars according to Tyson.
The 28-year-old from Phoenix, Arizona has established himself as an unbeaten two-weight world champion.
Benavidez was recently elevated to WBC light-heavyweight champion status after previous titleholder Dmitry Bivol decided to vacate the crown.
Bivol’s decision came as he pursues a trilogy showdown with Artur Beterbiev.
