Minnesota IS the news | Power Line

We haven’t had much let up in nationwide news coverage of the multi-billion-dollar theft of taxpayer money here in Minnesota.

Local media have moved on and are now fixated on operations by ICE to round up illegal immigrants. Some of the these encounters have been confrontational.

In a coincidence, a Mexican national (confusingly named Roberto Carlos Munoz-Guatemala) was convicted in a jury trial in federal court in St. Paul today for assaulting a federal officer during his ICE arrest back in June. I was the very first to report the news of his conviction.

At the national level, here are some opinion pieces worth your time:

  • Fox News (David Marcus):Somali power surge raises the question Minnesota avoids — where’s assimilation?
  • Fox News (Howard Husock): How misreading Somali poverty led Minnesota into its largest welfare scandal.
  • New York Post (Becket Adams):Media leap to defend Minnesota’s Somali fraudsters — but trip over the awful truth.
  • New York Post (Victor Davis Hanson): Citizens are fed up with Dem-invited migrants who have disdain for US law and culture

The Washington Examiner reports,

Walz says he would ‘welcome more’ Somalis as fraud investigation intensifies

Meh. Why not?

While appearing as a star speaker at a fundraiser for Gov. Bob Ferguson (D-WA), Walz said his administration would accept the arrival of more Somalis with open arms should more immigrate to the United States.

What could go wrong? KVI 570 News Radio (Seattle, WA) reports,

No media allowed: journalist describes slipping into Ferguson fundraiser where Walz drew cheers after pledging to bring in more Somali immigrants

Democracy dies in the darkness, they tell me. KVI cites this report from The Center Square. The Center adds,

The event at the Washington State Convention Center drew more than a thousand supporters, including table sponsors who paid upwards of $2,500 to attend.

Let’s see if Walz repeats this statement once he returns to Minnesota.
