From The Hill newspaper,
Minnesota fraud scandal poses danger for Democrats in Senate race.
The Hill reports,
The massive statewide fraud scandal in Minnesota is threatening to become a liability for Democrats in the state’s closely watched Senate race this year.
This has been my working hypothesis for the past two months: national Democrats want Tim Walz out of the picture as his bid for a third term as Minnesota governor threatens to turn what should be a Democratic sweep in the state into a Republican one.
Specifically, Democrats are counting on holding onto the open U.S. Senate seat up for grabs in 2026 as part of their effort to retake control of that chamber.
The Hill writes regarding the Senate campaign of Peggy Flanagan,
In particular, some Democrats think the widespread money laundering scheme, which is estimated to have stolen as much as roughly $9 billion, could be a problem for Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan.
“Some Democrats”? Which Democrats?
Others in the party worry the issue could be a challenge for the party as a whole in the North Star State.
“Others in the party”? Which others? The Hill quotes two former state party chairmen on the topic, along with an anonymous party operative and two named operatives.
But the message should be clear.
