Montreal church fined for hosting prayer service concert with Christian singer Sean Feucht

(LifeSiteNews) – A Canadian church that assisted American pro-life Christian singer Sean Feucht, who has links to supporting the MAGA movement, by allowing him to hold a prayer service style concert in its space was hit with a $2,500 fine.

According to The Democracy Fund (TDF), the Ministerios Restauracion Church located in Montreal was given a ticket on August 6 by city officials for using its space for an “unauthorized purpose.”

The ticket is dated July 25, which is when the church went ahead with a prayer service at which Feucht was singing. Before the service started, police came into the church to try and stop the performance. Anti-Christian protesters set off a smoke bomb inside the church to try and intimidate those inside.

TDF litigation director Mark Joseph, in a press release sent to LifeSiteNews, blasted the move by Montreal officials to fine the church, saying, “the state has apparently prejudged this matter, suggesting, improperly and without evidence, that peaceful Christian worshippers were engaged in hate speech.”

“This is highly inappropriate and indicative of bad faith,” he said.

“Canadians have a right to a fair trial and a right to freedom of religion under both the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Quebec Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms.”

As reported by LifeSiteNews, Feucht in July was forced to find alternative venues for six of his prescheduled concerts in eastern Canada after local authorities canceled them at the original sites because of what he called “religious persecution.”

At the time, Feucht blasted on X the Canadian authorities’ alleged “religious persecution” against him, claiming he was targeted for simply being Christian.

According to the TDF, a spokesperson for Montreal’s Mayor’s office said that Feucht’s show runs counter to the values of inclusion, solidarity, and respect that are championed in the city. “Freedom of expression is one of our fundamental values, but hateful and discriminatory speech is not acceptable in Montreal.”

In August, Feucht, as reported by LifeSiteNews, was denied a permit by the City of Abbotsford, British Columbia, to perform in concert. The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms (JCCF) issued a legal warning to the city as a result.

Despite being denied concert permits in some Canadian provinces, the Alberta government green-lighted him in August to hold a concert in front of the province’s Legislature.

In 2020, Feucht ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Congress as a Republican, and in the past has spoken out against abortion and has been critical of the LGBT agenda and race theory. He had performed in Canada for years with no previous issues.
