Betty McCollum is a Democratic Congresswoman who represents, roughly, St. Paul, Minnesota and its suburbs. One can say, politely, that she has never been noted for mental acuity. But she is a member of the House Appropriations Committee, and in that capacity questioned Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth on the deployment of National Guard troops and Marines to Los Angeles.
Typically, McCollum used nearly all of her time to unfairly attack the deployment, beginning with a false recitation of the facts surrounding the Minneapolis riots of 2020 and Governor Tim Walz’s disgraceful role in them. Hegseth did a good job of setting her straight, which caused McCollum to pretend that she had been interested in the budget all along:
You can always tell the Democrats are in trouble when they discover a newfound concern with how much things cost.
