Morning Minute: Trump Keeps His Options Open

Wednesday, March 11, 2026

Good morning, and welcome to RedState’s “Morning Minute” — a brief glimpse at which stories are trending at the moment and a look ahead at what the day may bring. Consider this your one-stop shop for news to kickstart your day.

TOP O’ THE MORNIN’

Red-Hot at RedState

Exxon Mobil Was Evidently ‘Born to Run,’ Because It’s Ditching NJ for Friendlier Business Climes

So-called “progressive” policies in all too many states have been utter failures, and the Left’s obsession with climate change has caused little progress but untold billions in headaches.

After CNN’s Horrible Tweet About NYC Bombing Attempt, They Just Made It Worse With New Comment From Host

The CNN tweet about the suspects was bad enough, but how does a CNN host actually say this live on air, twice, no less? Then, apparently, trying to paint it as a part of an anti-Islam sentiment? How do you justify this?

Pam Bondi Reportedly Forced Onto Military Base As Threats Against Trump Officials Grow

Increasingly, activists have decided political fights belong outside private homes. Addresses get posted online. Neighbors get pulled into it. Families get dragged into conflicts they never chose.

Connecticut Arrest Shatters Tons of Gun Control Myths

At every level, every law created to keep someone like Yale disarmed apparently failed to do any such thing.

The Logic of the Antiwar Crowd Is Bizarre

It will be a long time before we know the costs and benefits of the war, but many of the people whinging about it right now are being ridiculous or even lying. Few of them said much of anything when Biden got 13 people killed in his retreat from Afghanistan. Now they are acting as if the soldiers who have sacrificed their lives in a so-far amazingly successful effort have died in vain.

Here’s What’s Next for Marjorie Taylor Greene’s District

Many in the media are still calling this a test of whether Trump’s endorsement means anything, and some are already saying on Tuesday night that the fact that Fuller didn’t win outright is a sign that it doesn’t. But given the size of the field, I think the real test will be what the numbers look like in April.

Washington Democrats Imposed an Insane Income Tax Rate, Now This Company Is Leaving the State

Funny how that works. Fiscally conservative political policies attract businesses and encourage them to thrive. Democratic tax-and-spend policies drive businesses away.

Is This a South Park Episode? Iran Trots Out Its New Supreme Leader (Sort Of) and a Meme Is Born

If Mojtaba Khamenei is still alive and out there somewhere, we’d like to congratulate him on his succession and on becoming the funniest meme of the day.

WHAT’S ON TAP?

Today on Capitol Hill…

Again, the House is out, but the Senate has several hearings/meetings set on Wednesday, including

  • Senate Environment and Public Works — Hearings to examine S.3135, to require the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency to authorize manufacturers of certain vehicles to suspend engine derate or shutdown functions in prolonged cold weather conditions
  • Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship — Hearings to examine Main Street, focusing on growing the small business pet economy
  • Senate Finance — Hearings to examine the fiscal outlook, 2027-2036
  • Senate Aging (Special) — Hearings to examine foreign dependence, focusing on China and America’s drug supply

Tuesday’s Senate votes included:

  • Vote #49 — Confirmation of Lt. Gen. Joshua M. Rudd to be General in the United States Army — Confirmed (71–29)
  • Vote #50 — Motion to Invoke Cloture on the Scott (SC)-Warren Substitute Amendment #4308 to H.R. 6644 (Housing for the 21st Century Act) — Agreed To (89–9, 1 Present)

On Wednesday, the Senate will convene at 10:00 a.m. and resume consideration of H.R. 6644.

A final passage vote is possible late Wednesday.

Keeping Up With the Cabinet

Dir. Federal Bureau of Investigations – Kash Patel — Patel announced that the FBI was replenishing its Ten Most Wanted list, since it nabbed six of the previous Top Ten.

Full Court Press…

The courts were a tad quieter on Tuesday, but there was a notable ruling out of the 9th Circuit — and a small win for the administration.

  • ✅ In Lazaro Maldonado Bautista v. Ernesto Santacruz Jr (immigration detention policy), 9th Circuit Court of Appeals GRANTS administrative stay.

COMING ATTRACTIONS

The Supreme Court will resume hearing oral argument on March 23. It won’t surprise me if we see them hand down another batch of opinions in the interim.

MORNING MUSING

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt apparently caused a stir when, in response to Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo’s query regarding boots on the ground and the draft, she said, “President Trump wisely does not remove options off the table.”

Cue the outrage machine: Trump refuses to rule out X, Y, Z!!1!!

Look, anyone who’s even been a casual observer of Donald Trump over the years recognizes that he will almost never take an option off the table. He values room to negotiate over virtue signaling.

This came up on the morning show today, and I remarked that I had a confession: I have never read The Art of the Deal. But my point was this. Even having not read the book, I’m willing to bet good money that keeping all your options open is part of DJT’s negotiating strategy. That man will not allow himself to be painted into a corner.

A friend has since confirmed to me that, yes, in fact, that concept is in the book. I am still going to read it, though.
