Morrisons customers urged to cash in on £30m unused vouchers before Christmas | Personal Finance | Finance

Morrisons is urging customers to cash in on their share of £30million worth of unspent vouchers before Christmas. Shoppers are being reminded to redeem any unused More Card Fivers, which expire after 12 months if they aren’t converted. The supermarket giant said millions of pounds in vouchers from its More Card loyalty scheme have yet to be spent.

Morrisons encouraged customers to check as it could help cut the cost of Christmas. Under the More Card Fivers scheme, customers with 5,000 points receive a £5 voucher for Morrisons. These can be redeemed online or in-store. Users of Morrisons’ app can turn points into cash whenever they want to, while cardholders can arrange for a voucher to be printed off in store.

Gareth Lloyd, director of loyalty, told The Sun: “With Christmas just around the corner, we know customers will be keeping an eye on their budgets.

“That’s why we’re reminding our More Card customers to check their More Card Fivers before starting their Christmas shopping this year.”

He said whether it is money off the big Christmas shop or helping to reduce the cost of daily essentials ahead of December 25, unclaimed vouchers “can really make a difference”.

Morrisons is hoping to tempt shoppers into its UK-wide stores this Christmas as supermarkets battle it out for the festive market.

Dating back to 1899, Morrisons opened its first supermarket in Bradford in 1961. It opened it 100th store in 1999 and now has almost 500 outlets.

Earlier this month, the retailer announced four days during which staff offered a slower paced checkout experience as part of a campaign to combat loneliness.

Joining Good Morning Britain’s 1 Million Minutes scheme, Morrisons employees gave more time to chat with customers from December 4-7. Morrisons said its participation was part of its commitment to tackling loneliness with its charity partners this Christmas.

This included a £50,000 donation from the Morrisons Foundation to fund 100 of Royal Voluntary Service’s festive spreads and providing 400 free Christmas meals in Morrisons cafés with Age UK.
