Murder investigation as woman found dead by private members’ club | UK | News

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman’s body was found by a private members’ club on the River Thames. Thames Valley Police was called to Phyllis Court Drive, Henley-on-Thames at about 7.50am on Friday.

The force said the arrested man, 44, remained in police custody. Det Insp Rob Underhill said in a statement: “The investigation is still in its early stages, however, an arrest has been made and we are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident. I want to reassure the community that there is no risk to the wider public.”

Mr Underhill added: “Members of the public are likely to see an increased police presence while we continue to investigate and we would advise anyone with any concerns to please speak to one of our uniformed officers.”

Phyllis Court Club’s clubhouse, fitness centre and ground were temporarily closed “until further notice”, according to its website.

The private members club is based at a manor house set within 18 acres next to the River Thames in Oxfordshire.

Pictures from the scene show a police team searching for evidence along the riverbank and in the Thames.
