NATO country on red alert as drones spotted over naval base 24 hours a | UK | News

More suspicious drones have been spotted in Europe just days after causing airport chaos in Scandanavia. Just six miles from Sweden’s Karlskrona naval base, two large drones soared over the southern region’s archipelago. Police saw one of the drones in action after being called to an area near the Möcklösundsbron bridge, though remain unsure what the aircraft are.

They believe the incident to be connect to previous sightings in Denmark, which caused the country’s busiest airport to shut down on Monday. Mattias Lundgren, an investigation lead at the Karlskrona police, told SVT: “It is a larger variant, similar to the one that was over Denmark and Skåne. It is unclear what it is, but we have filed a report of a violation of the Aviation Act.”

Mr Lundgren added that officers reacted quickly to the drone sighting becuase it “reminds us” of the incident in Denmark earlier this week.

Sturko and Tjurko said they saw two drones flashing green and red lights.

In Denmark, it is suspected that a “capable actor” deployed the drones to Copenhagen Airport to “show off”.

Jens Jespersen, Copenhagen Police inspector, said: “There is nothing to suggest that they intended to harm anyone. They intended to show off. It is an actor who has the capabilities, the will and the tools to show off in this way.”

There was also a drone sighting in Norway’s capital, Oslo, though it’s not year clear whether this is connected.
