Neighbour row erupts as woman receives threatening letter from homeowner over noise complaint

A woman has found herself at the centre of a disturbing neighbourhood dispute after an aggressive message was slipped beneath her door over a noise complaint.

The resident, who had just relocated to a shared building in Bournemouth, encountered the hostile communication from her downstairs neighbour regarding alleged noise disturbances.

The incident has left the single occupant feeling “very uncomfortable” and uncertain about how to proceed in her new accommodation.

She turned to the social media platform Reddit to share her experience and seek guidance from others who might have faced similar situations.

The anonymous Reddit user, posting under the username @Otherwise-Plate-4500, shared a photograph of the handwritten message on the r/bournemouth forum.

She explained that despite living quietly and not engaging in disruptive activities during evening hours, she had received the hostile correspondence.

“I live alone and I’m not doing much at night to warrant this tone,” the woman wrote in her post, which she titled “Downstairs neighbour left me a threatening note.”

The resident explained she was confused about the complaint and questioned whether she should contact her letting agent about the matter.

The message contained explicit profanity and direct threats against the woman’s safety.

The note read: “If u keep banging on my ceiling and keeping me awake I’m gonna lose my patience, and it won’t be good 4 u!”

The correspondence continued with further expletives, including “F*****g stop” and concluded by calling the recipient a “selfish c**t.”

In her Reddit post, the woman said: “I feel very uncomfortable and threatened,” adding that she planned to change her behaviour going forward despite her confusion about the specific complaints.

Reddit users responded with alarm to the threatening message, with numerous commenters recommending police involvement.

One person replied: “That’s a serious threat, and it should be documented with the police and who might have a cautionary word with him/her.”

Another added: “You can report it to the police and ask for it to be kept on a log so there is a record already. If they give you any more s**t you can just ask for the log to be updated.”

A third commented: “Keep hold of the note. Show it to the police if you get any other issues.”

However, some commenters expressed understanding for the neighbour’s frustration, suggesting the woman should consider the impact of her movements in poorly soundproofed buildings.

One user explained: “I understand his feelings. So annoying when people upstairs have no regard for people downstairs.”

A second recommended: “Perhaps maybe be mindful of the fact people live below you? Yes the note is way too aggressive, but also some flats are built terribly with no sound dampening. So perhaps try and be mindful a bit.”
