New Orleans Dream Home | Power Line

Those who know me in real life have been bored to tears hearing of my visits to the French Quarter in New Orleans. In a half-dozen visits or so over the decades I have managed to walk almost every street. (Don’t be impressed, the entire district occupies less than half a square mile, at a mean elevation of one foot. The river sits above street level.)

In my view, the district’s ancient and utter shabbiness is part of the appeal. Today’s Wall Street Journal offers a view of the other end of the spectrum. A non-paywalled version (complete with pictures) can be found here. The Journal‘s Friday “Mansion” section offers as its “House of the Week” a pair of adjacent homes offered for sale separately.

The 1854 main house runs 5,000 sq. ft. and is offered at $3.1 million. A 2,600 sq. ft. 1843 guesthouse could be yours for under $1.4 million. The decor pictured is a bit much for me, as I am, in theory, a Mid-Century Modern man.

But a boy can dream, can’t he?
