New York City’s socialist mayoral candidate enjoys lavish ‘billionaire wedding’ under armed guard at parents’ sprawling estate

New York City’s socialist mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, held a lavish wedding celebration at his parents’ sprawling Ugandan estate.

Donald Trump-hating Mamdani is said to have thrown a large-scale party last weekend at the property in Buziga Hill, just outside capital city Kampala.

The 33-year-old Democratic candidate revealed that he and his wife, 27-year-old Rama Duwaji, would be returning to his home country to celebrate with family.

Mamdani, who has campaigned against US border agency ICE, had his party heavily guarded by masked security personnel.

Sources in Buziga Hill revealed to the New York Post how guests streamed in and partied long into the night.

His parents’ neighbourhood is home to billionaire businessman Godfrey Kirumira – while houses near his parents sell for around £1million – an estimated 10 times as much as the average house price in Kampala.

The Mamdani family home is set back from the road and sits on two acres of gardens surrounded by trees – and boasts panoramic views of Lake Victoria.

One local blasted: “Local children have been watching Mamdani on TV, and everyone was talking about him, but not about the wedding.

“For us, it’s just about survival. We’re just trying to win the bread and make sure our families are OK.”

Another said: “We had heard that Mamdani was going to be Mayor of New York, and he had made it over in America.

“We want to know now if we can get free visas to the US and to travel to New York like he did.”

The 33-year-old anti-Israel firebrand later said on social media: “Since you will undoubtedly read about this trip in The New York Post – Inshallah [God willing] on the front page – here are a few of my humble suggestions for headlines,” as mock-up front pages flashed onto the screen.

The headlines read: “‘M.I.A IN AFRICA’, ‘U-GANDA MISS ME’, AND ‘HE’S GONE KAMPALA-ETELY CRAZY.'”

“I do want to apologise to the haters though, because I will be back,” Mamdani jabbed.

It emerged last week that the would-be NYC mayor spoke to London leader Sadiq Khan over the phone

It emerged last week that the would-be NYC mayor spoke to London leader Sadiq Khan over the phone after securing his party’s nomination for the post.

“Zohran has been in touch with a number of progressive mayors, including Michelle Wu in Boston and Sadiq Khan,” a source close to his campaign told The Telegraph.

The call was “warm and collegial and Mayor Khan had some words of advice”, they said.

The source added that Khan has a “unique set of experiences” as the only Muslim mayor of a Western city.
