Newark insurrection | Power Line

A Federal facility breached, violence against Federal law enforcement, political motives. January 6 at the Capitol? Nope, May 9 in Newark, New Jersey.

Attention has now shifted to three members of Congress and their conduct Friday at a Federal immigration facility in Newark. On Friday, I focused on Ras Baraka, Newark Mayor, who was arrested at the scene for trespassing on Federal property.

The Mayor was accompanying three members of Congress to view the facility: Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ),

Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ),

Rep. Robert J. Menendez, Jr. (D-NJ)

Rep. Menendez Jr. is, of course, the son and namesake of disgraced former U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ). Menendez, Sr. will begin serving an 11-year prison sentence next month, in a Federal facility, having been convicted on 17 felony counts of public corruption.

From media reports, the congresspeople were authorized visitors, toured the facility, and emerged, reporting no problems with the facility itself. That’s when the problems started. The Hill newspaper reports,

Following the visit, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said that the arrest of the three New Jersey House members was “definitely on the table.”

“We actually have body camera footage of some of these members of Congress assaulting our ICE enforcement officers, including body slamming a female ICE officer, so we will be showing that to viewers very shortly,” DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said Friday.

The U.K. Daily Mail reports,

Video obtained by Daily Mail shows Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-N.J.) pushing and aggressively shoving at least one member of law enforcement guarding the gates at Delaney Hall, a Newark detention center that was recently reopened.

No one is above the law.
