Non-Christians Should Stop Telling Christians How to Be Better Christians – RedState

This is a growing pet peeve of mine.

Every time I turn around, a non-Christian is attempting to coach Christians on how to be good Christians, and always by misquoting or miscontextualizing the Bible. The point is always to mislead through an attempt at making the Christian feel guilt to either shut them up or do what a specific group — usually the Democrat Party — wants them to do.

The latest offender is Rachel Accurso, better known in toddler homes everywhere as Ms. Rachel, the YouTube sensation that has become the new standard for small children’s entertainment.

Accurso’s biggest issue is that she tends to get political from time to time, and while she tries to wear a mask of caring for children, her unwavering commitment to leftism shines through the veil.

Recently, Ms. Rachel decided to appeal to Christians to turn against Trump during the government shutdown by pointing out that children won’t get fed because SNAP benefits won’t be available.

“People who say they are Christian and want to cut SNAP, Jesus said to feed the hungry,” Accuro posted to her Instagram.

Never mind that SNAP benefits have a massive fraud problem that needs to be sorted out. A whopping 42 million people receive SNAP benefits, some of whom are illegal aliens, which creates a dependency on the government, kicking personal responsibility to the curb. Moreover, a lot of what SNAP benefits pay for is wildly unhealthy and shouldn’t be paid for by taxpayers.

Moreover, we’re hearing many people claim that if they don’t get their SNAP benefits, then they’ll just go rob grocery stores and steal food. To them, I give this gentleman’s small rebuttal.

But let’s attend to Accurso and her “if you’re a good Christian, you’ll do X’ post.

Yes, Christ did command us to be charitable; however, scripture is also pretty adamant that those who can work should work, or they don’t eat.

“If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat,” Paul said in 2 Thessalonians 3:10, who said people should “work quietly and earn their own living.”

Ephesians 4:28 says, “Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor… so that he may have something to share.”

Yes, we Christians are more than happy to feed the poor and needy. What we aren’t good with is enabling thieves to take things that don’t belong to them, and people abusing the SNAP system are, at the end of the day, thieves. They don’t work. They don’t earn. They’re parasites.

Does taking SNAP mean there won’t be any food for poor children? No. Churches and community partnerships, civic organizations, school meal programs, and more all provide food to children who don’t have any. No child in America has to go hungry because SNAP benefits didn’t come in. Charities aren’t hard to come by, and wouldn’t you know it, a great deal of them are based in Christian organizations.

Accurso, who says she’s all about the children, would likely know about all this, seeing as how she’s so concerned about kids… right?

Right?

This isn’t Accurso caring about kids; this is her politics breaking through the smiling, baby-voiced persona she puts on for kids and parents on YouTube. This is her using children as leverage for her political beliefs, which is gross in and of itself.

If she’s hoping Christians will just fall into lockstep through a steady application of guilt, she’s barking up the wrong tree. As much as I feel for the truly poor and needy, I’m no fool. Neither are most Christians. We know the difference between a commandment from our Lord and Savior and a guilt trip from an online personality whose stage grew a bit bigger than it probably should be at this point.

If you’re going to come at Christians with sophistry, better know the Bible better than they do.
