The Jeffrey Epstein hysteria continues today with the Wall Street Journal story reporting that President Trump wrote Epstein a fiftieth birthday letter in 2003, some 22 years ago. President Trump denies the story and vows to sue the Journal.
I would like to think that the Journal story represents the Epstein apex and that it’s downhill from here, but I wouldn’t bet on it. The fever pitch will continue for a while. As for the Journal story, AGHamilton at least extracts a laugh.

What will bring and end to the obsessive attention to the Epstein story? With the Trump angle, we may be condemned to live with it so long as it remains useful to Democrats, who are officially adopting it, and to the Tucker Carlson wing on the right, for reasons that have become obvious.
The Epstein case reminds me of the murder of Chandra Levy in Rock Creek Park and the intense speculation that Congressman Gary Condit did it. Does anyone even recall that one Ingmar Guandique was charged and convicted of the crime? I didn’t. I had to look it up.
Unfortunately, the government gave up on the case when a new trial was ordered. Fortunately, Guandique was instead deported to El Salvador in 2017. The case has a timely ring.
Levy had disappeared in May 2001. Public attention to it dissipated in the aftermath of 9/11. I hope it doesn’t take a comparably serious event to save us from the profoundly unserious Epstein hysteria on the left and on the right.
